Students should bring a bagged lunch Monday through Thursday, as well as an additional snack each day. During our five day camps, Rock It Learning will provide lunch to all students on Fridays. The menu will be decided by the participants.
My child takes medication. Will you administer this medication?
Because we are an academically based camp attempting to further student's knowledge of subject matter, it is desired that students remain on their medications while attending classes. We request that all medications be administered BEFORE arriving at RIL. If any medication needs to be given during camp hours, instructors will oversee that students take the medication, but it is ultimately the student's responsibility. Rock It Learning assumes no responsibility for administering medications.
Is Rock It Learning equipped for special needs students?
Our facility is handicapped accessible. There is a ramp for easy entrance access and the suite itself is very open to accommodate students with mobility concerns.
The program itself is equipped for students with special academic needs. Each module has visual and auditory capabilities to meet the academic needs of students with visual and auditory concerns.
Do you take the children on field trips?
We have a fourteen passenger bus used to transport our campers on field trips. Our drivers are licensed and insured.
How did Rock It Learning come to be?
Tonya and Chris both have middle school aged children. Tonya was looking for a more innovative way to teach children, and Chris was concerned about middle school aged students being left at home alone with the onset of more Wake County middle schools going year-round. With Tonya's love of the system and Chris's dedication to the cause, Rock It Learning was born.
Are there certified teachers at Rock It Learning?
Yes, Tonya has seventeen years teaching experience, and holds a North Carolina Teaching Certificate in Education K-9 with endorsements in Language Arts and Social Studies in grades 6-9. She taught at Pleasant Union Elementary in North Raleigh before launching Rock It Learning. She also holds a Masters in Education: New Professional Studies. Much of Tonya's Masters work was in the area of children's learning styles. She also creates all of the activities to support the camp curriculum each week in Rock It Learning.
Will you ever expand to other areas of the Triangle?
Yes, we do have plans to expand and will do so as quickly as possible.
